I Find Your Lack Of Faith Disturbing

As you probably might have noticed, the number of blog posts I've put up have been drastically reduced of late.

I'm right now in the middle of a competition:

Current Score: +2-2=1 with a performance rating of 1500 thereabouts.

But I'm not in the least bit concerned about my potential fall in ratings nor my dismal performance.

There's a lot of things to occupy my mind at the moment and unfortunately, chess would have to take a back seat. I've gone back to spending more time with my family, playing computer games and not spending sufficient time practicing chess drills. I admit I've gotten slack about it.

I need to put chess in its right perspective at the moment.

I will continue to update and will still continue with the rest of the competition but I've definitely stopped looking at things like analysing a possible refutation to the 150 Attack in the Pirc Defence (if you know what I mean). :)

(PS: Okay, I've been playing Fallout 3.)

You will be back, ha ha ha!

Oh, we all take so called chessbreaks but eventually return to Caissa.

  2. Yeah, don't feel too bad about it. Chess is one of those games that does require intense study because of the very steep learning curve. If you're at it for too long you risk burnout so it's always a good idea to mix it up and take breaks I think.

In my own spare time I also enjoy arcade gaming as well as chess and the variety I think is good for me.

How are you finding Fallout 3 by the way?

  3. chesstiger: Sadly so... :)

Ausknight: I agree wholeheartedly and thank you for the encouragement.

Fallout 3 is an excellent RPG game and I just can't get my fill of it at the moment. There's so many things to explore, and so many things to do. It's incredible in terms of its depth (ala Oblivion).

  4. Mr Hippo,

I plan to be in Sydney April 28-May 10 . Let me know if there are any chess related events during this time.

  5. Well the one great thing about will still be here when you decide to get serious about it again.

  6. Hello Ivan,

    That's a bummer.

Unfortunately, there's no chess events during that period you're in Sydney. In fact, you would have just missed the Sydney International Open tournament.

It runs from 15th April to 19th April.

The Doeberl Cup runs in Canberra (2 hrs drive from Sydney). It runs from 9th April 9 to 13th April.

The only tournament after that is the NSW Open which runs from 6th Jun to 8th Jun.

  7. hello Wang,

    Indeed. :)

Last night, my opponent made a mistake in time pressure and I converted the win.

Now standing at +3-2=1 in the Norths Club Championship. :)

  8. Chess is like a bad itch. It keeps coming back. :-)

  9. Heheh... isn't that the truth, Polly!

For some insane reason, I keep getting drawn back.... to chess.

I was telling myself, you don't need to remember the 7th move of the Queen's Gambit Declined: Moscow Variation but noooooo..... I find myself looking at it minutes later.

    Drats and double drats!!

  10. Mr Hippo,

    How about Sydney area clubs?

    Thank you
